A small literary detour in this analysis of Haiti and its history.
A few reminders: Though I teach this class at a college, this video is not the same thing as taking that course. You will not get access to scanned readings. You will not get reading questions written by me. You will not have classroom discussions. You will not receive feedback. I say that all as a way to not encourage the delusion that “YouTube” learning is the same thing as actual University learning. That said, I think this information is very important and I want to share it with as many people as possible. Th problem is that YouTube learning is passive learning, and the best learning is ACTIVE learning. Here are some things that you can do to make this more active: 1. Buy a notebook and take notes. Seriously, that will make the information sink much deeper 2. Buy the books I suggest in the first class 3. Watch any videos and listen to any podcasts that I assign. Some more thoughts; I use some terminology which is now considered offensive/insensitive. I will only do so when it is absolutely necessary to be in line with the historically accurate terminology. I am NOT an expert in Haiti. I did a lot of research to create this class, but I am by no means a proper scholar of Haiti. I am, however, a skilled communicator and feel that it is important to use that skill to share this vital knowledge about the history and greater meaning of Haiti and its people. So, I may make mistakes from time to time and I will gladly acknowledge them and correct any mistakes that I make going forward.
