UCT in October: Global wins, bold firsts

In October, the University of Cape Town (UCT) marked key milestones, including hosting the 2026 Times Higher Education World Academic Summit, the first on African soil – highlighting its growing global influence. The announcement coincides with UCT’s rise in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, climbing to 164th out of 2 191 institutions and strengthening its position as Africa’s top university.
Additionally, UCT’s Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine became Africa’s first to earn My Green Lab certification, showing its commitment to sustainability. The month also celebrated leadership and achievements, like Professor Elelwani Ramugondo’s WomenCan Beacon of Hope Award and honours in sport, innovation and global research forums.
