白駒池は北八ヶ岳の広大な原生林の中の神秘的な湖。標高２,１００ｍ以上の湖としては日本最大の天然湖で、周囲の長さは1.35Ｋｍあります。国道２９９号線沿いの駐車場から歩いて約１５分で白駒池まで行けます。湖までの歩道の回りは樹齢数百年のツガ、トウヒ、シラビソの原生林で、苔が一面を覆っています。紅葉の名所として知られており、池は周辺はドウダンツツジなどの広葉樹に覆われています。登山道を登った先の高見石からは、池全体を見下ろすことができます。
