Emergency Relief for Michael’s Family

Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching Hungarian to Michael Famuyiwa. Today, however, I’m not writing as a teacher, but as a friend and supporter of someone who is going through an unimaginably difficult time.

Michael is a British citizen who moved to Hungary five years ago after falling in love with his wife, Fanni. Together, they built a life in Nógrád County, where they are now raising three beautiful boys: Micah (9), Sammy (7), and their baby Ezra, who is just 6 months old. Michael has embraced Hungary as his home, and I was so inspired by his motivation to learn the language and become part of the community here.

But on May 14th, tragedy struck.

While working as a maintenance man at a large industrial factory, Michael was caught in a horrific accident and engulfed in flames. He suffered severe burns covering more than 30% of his body and has already undergone multiple skin graft surgeries. He remains in the hospital receiving intensive care and trauma treatment.

Michael is strong and determined, but the road ahead is long and painful. During this period, he is unable to work, and Fanni is doing everything she can to care for their three children while supporting Michael’s recovery—emotionally, physically, and logistically.

They are now raising £2,000 (approximately 1 million forints) to help cover:
• Legal expenses related to the accident
• Psychological support for Michael and the family
• Additional physical therapy to help him recover and return to work

Their long-term costs will be substantial—but they are strong, resilient people, and I have no doubt they will find a way forward. What they need right now is a bit of help to get through this emergency period while Michael is still in the hospital.

Michael is a devoted father, a kind and thoughtful human being, and someone who always puts others before himself. Now he needs others to show up for him.
