Experiencing nature in the fifth dimension | Erica Seccombe | TEDxCanberra

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Using 3D xrays to capture the moment life begins (sprouting mungbeans), Erica uses the concept of the fifth dimension to explore new, undefined spaces and experiences (unfamiliar, unknown, unseen).

Erica Seccombe is a visual artist investigating the possibilities of using 4D Micro-CT in her practice. Erica explores the fun aspects of this interdisciplinary project and wants us to understand mungbeans sprouting in a way you have never experienced them before!

Based in Canberra, Erica is currently a PhD candidate at the ANU School of Art in Photography and Digital Arts. Her project Grow: Visualising Nature at Nanoscale is being facilitated by the ANU Department of Applied Mathematics and at VizLab, the ANU Supercomputer facility, NCI.

Her work has a focus on new scientific visualisation technologies and new-media but she also has a background in printmaking, and she especially loves screenprinting. Erica works in the visual arts on all fronts, from lecturing in art theory to teaching studio practice, and participating in community arts organisations.
