At the traffic light, I find myself absently watching the leaves of the street trees sway in the wind. I realize there’s a spot on the underside of those leaves that hasn’t seen sunlight even once today. It’s such a small thing, yet it somehow soothes my heart.
Prayer might be something similar. In the midst of noisy, hectic days, we pause for a moment and gently lift up what’s been hidden deep within our hearts. The Psalms say, “The Lord gives strength to his people and blesses them with peace.”
Far off, I can hear the blare of car horns. Each time my heart grows still in prayer, I notice that my own sense of being begins to quiver—just like those leaves.
