October has brought unseasonably mild weather to the plain, with temperatures holding in the high 60s. But for some, the warmth comes too late.
In this episode of The Last Feast, we say a final goodbye to the Tallawah Empire. After wave after wave of assaults, they have finally fallen. Rest in peace.
But nature waits for no one. The Sunrise Empire (Camponotus nicobarensis) has wasted no time claiming the empty territory with absolute confidence.
The Expansion: They dismantle a crane fly in their newly conquered lands.
The Main Course: As night falls, a fat, juicy bluebottle fly appears. The attack is instant and brutal.
The Savage Feast: Using formic acid to incapacitate the prey, the colony tears the fly apart—ripping open the abdomen to consume the maturing eggs inside.
Nothing goes to waste as the Sunrise Empire prepares for the winter ahead.
