Maxgraft (allogeneic human-derived bone graft) and Cerabone (xenogenic bovine bone mineral processed by high-temperature calcination) form a complementary biomaterial mixture designed for bone augmentation procedures in GBR and GTR protocols.
Maxgraft exhibits high osteoconductivity and supports rapid vascular ingrowth due to its preserved trabecular microarchitecture. It demonstrates relatively dynamic resorption and predictable remodeling into vital host bone. In the early postoperative phase, the material undergoes active integration and incorporation into the recipient site.
Cerabone is characterized by extremely low resorption rates and a highly stable macro- and microstructure. Its high porosity and resistance to degradation provide long-term space maintenance, which is essential in large-volume augmentations or in areas exposed to soft-tissue pressure.
The combination Maxgraft + Cerabone provides a synergistic effect:
• The allogeneic component (Maxgraft) enhances revascularization and accelerates the conversion of the graft into vital bone.
• The xenogenic component (Cerabone) ensures volumetric stability and minimizes long-term resorptive changes.
Typical mixing ratios (50/50 or Maxgraft-dominant in smaller defects) allow for an optimal balance between biological remodeling and long-term dimensional stability of the augmented ridge. This combination is widely used in horizontal and vertical augmentations, sinus floor elevation, and three-dimensional ridge reconstruction. It is commonly combined with collagen or d-PTFE membranes to create a stable, well-isolated healing environment.
