This time, our host visited Fujigawachi Gorge in Saiki City, Oita Prefecture. Fujigawachi Gorge is an approximately 8-kilometer gorge that starts at Natsukiyama in the Sobo-Katamuki Quasi-National Park, which is known for its lush primeval forests. This beautiful slice of nature consists of a single piece of granite rock and the pristine Kuwabara River.

You can see sights like the 77-meter-tall Kannon Falls, countless potholes, and the extraordinarily clear waters of the Hyotan Pool from the walking trail along the stream. Canyoning tours with veteran guides run in summer, letting you safely enjoy the water through natural rock slides, waterfall basin diving, and more.

Next, our host stopped at Fujigawachi Utopia Hot Spring, a mineral spring that uses cold spring water welling out of the Fujigawachi Gorge granite. It is said to help alleviate nerve pain, rheumatism, shoulder stiffness, and more. Relax and wash away the tiredness that comes from canyoning while gazing upon the magnificent scenery of the gorge.

Finally, our host checked out the Fujigawachi Keikoku Camping Ground, which is run by Fujigawachi Yutopia Hot Spring. Here, guests can stay in bungalows or tents within Fujigawachi Gorge. As there is no electricity, only the absolute necessities like cooking areas and toilets are available, while the grand nature of the gorge is utilized to its fullest extent, letting you casually enjoy a liberating outdoor stay with riverside activities.
