~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome back to another fun vocabulary video of drama and discourse!
This time we are looking at
👻 👻 👻 The Anchor!!! ahh so scary ahh
Ok well maybe it’s not that bad but it certainly is an important term for our community that gets used for a bunch of different meanings. This importance paired with ambiguity does lead to some pretty intense discussions.
Our goal is to introduce the Anchor from the perspective of the smallest common denominator... then your preferred teacher can help define a specified understanding of what they mean when they use this jargon.
The Definition
Anchor: the diffusion of a Followers momentum signifying the end of a thought (movement) and preparing the initiation of a new thought
Remember in West Coast Swing, our physical language communicates with movements (sentences) and the anchor is the punctuation at the end of that sentence. Not that bad right? 😉
Well, just like word based languages, there are different (punctuations) styles of anchor that we can use to end movements in different ways... and we found where so many of the conversations betwixt westies go awry.
For future dances be sure to separate
your personal preference of Anchor
and the potential other means of Anchor
And
the Definitions of Anchor
from the Types of Anchors
This will be a great habit for many of the swing preferences you learn. Our community values social dancing with a wide array of people and we believe that everybody deserves to dance. If you are aware of a wider range of possibilities than just your preferences, then it will be easier to enjoy dances with others who may not match the exact version of moving you have cultivated.
Because after all, our end goal is to move together. To connect to other incredible humans and dance to amazing music.
And that’s what I want for each of you wonderful people! To be able to enjoy the fully realized Body Language of West Coast Swing in all of its incredible nuances. To speak it with a fluency that helps you engage and connect with Newcomers and Champions the world over, as we all pursue this amazing dance.
Thank you for watching another BLC video. I’m already looking forward to next time. Until then, have fun and keep practicing.
