The organ solo version of "The Old Hundredth Psalm" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Played by Makena James, organ, at Fairfield Mountains Chapel, Lake Lure, NC.
Many of you probably know this tune as the common doxology. The tune is also used for a hymn known as "All People that on Earth Do Dwell," also known as the Old Hundredth Psalm because the lyrics are the formal English version of the verses in Psalm 100. This specific arrangement is by Ralph Vaughan Williams for choir, congregation, orchestra, and organ, and here is my attempt to play all the parts I can in an organ solo.
Houghton University, my alma mater, just had its yearly homecoming collage concert, which they have every year in early October. In the concert they did for my freshman year, this song was the opener, and I vividly remember playing violin in the orchestra for this song. I wanted to carry on the tradition and honor the homecoming season at my college by playing this as a prelude at church today, and also for all of you here on YouTube. Enjoy.
