In the "Supernatural" pilot episode, brothers Sam and Dean Winchester reunite after years of estrangement when their father, John, goes missing during a hunting trip. Their mother was killed by a supernatural entity 22 years prior, and their father has been hunting such creatures ever since. The brothers investigate their father's disappearance, encountering a vengeful spirit called the "Woman in White" who haunts a specific bridge. Sam, who had left the hunting life to attend college and pursue a normal life, is forced back into the supernatural world when Dean arrives seeking his help.
