I am often asked “how to talk to children” and although it sounds like quite an obvious question, it’s actually a lot tricker than it sounds. Building positive relationships with the students in your class is extremely important as once a bond is formed you can help the children to achieve their personal and academic best. As a Primary School Teacher, you will be spending a lot of time with your students, so it is important to get to know them as quickly as possible. As a student or trainee teacher, sometimes you might not know how to begin interacting with a group of children during your placement. This video shares my advice for building a connection, including the tone of your voice, discussion points and ways to show mutual respect. I hope this video is useful for any teachers or adults who are going to be spending time around children soon.
