Charles Gammie is the Stanley O. Ikenberry Endowed Chair in Astronomy and in Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a theoretical astrophysicist who has contributed to our understanding of black holes, the origin of stars, planets, and moons, and the properties of turbulence in astrophysical plasmas, and has developed novel numerical methods for modeling astronomical objects. He spoke at the Induction Ceremony for new members of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2024.
