Brettski stepped out of the rideshare and into the neon furnace of the Las Vegas Strip with a backpack that felt heavier than it should’ve. Inside: one hundred thousand dollars in cash. Every step toward the casino doors felt like a countdown he couldn’t stop.

The plan was simple—one trip, one bankroll, no reloads. Win big or walk away empty. The kind of rule that sounds smart until the first drink hits and the lights start whispering your name.

He started at blackjack. Clean, surgical. Five hands in, he was up twenty grand. The table loved him. Dealers rotated. Strangers fist-bumped him like they’d known him for years. By midnight, he was back at even. By 1 a.m., he was up fifty thousand. That’s when the pit boss offered him a private table upstairs. Quieter. “Better energy,” he said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

Upstairs, the room felt wrong. Too calm. Brettski pushed seventy-five thousand into the betting circle without blinking. The dealer checked his cards, paused, and glanced up.

“Sir,” she said softly, “are you sure?”

The cards slid out.
