Anne recalls the shame she felt being diagnosed with

Author Anne Gately's journey with melanoma began with a straightforward removal from her back. However, eight years later, a second diagnosis revealed the cancer had spread throughout her entire skeleton.

Anne vividly remembers the "certain amount of shame" she felt upon her melanoma diagnosis, thinking, "I've done this to myself." Confronting this shame and sharing her story was one of many challenges Anne faced, alongside the immense pain and fear of having skin cancer spread throughout her body.

Thankfully, her immunotherapy treatment has been successful in reducing the cancer, eliminating the need for surgery. Now, Anne is using her experience to change the narrative around sun safety and skin cancer.
