Cocteau Twins - Rilkean Heart - 1996 - (Lyrics)

Rilkean Heart was based on her connection with Jeff Buckley who, along with herself, was a fan of he poet Rilke. This is a song about her own desire for love and connection after Robin had left her for someone else. And her desperate need to have more from Jeff than he was willing to give and then her ultimate acknowledgement and acceptance of the reality of it all. She was also letting him know that she understood where he was at in his life and allowed herself a touch of self forgiveness so she could let the hurt of this time in her life go.
“I just wish I’d been more of a friend,” she told the Guardian. “His career was everything to him, and I wish I had been more understanding – happy with a different kind of relationship. I missed out on something there, and it was my fault.”
A beautiful and honest song from Elizabeth. The fellow CT fans did nearly all of the lyrical work here but there were a few lines that I corrected. Enjoy.
