Well this is definitely a novel plant for a large container. The Arizona Poppy is not a poppy at all, it belongs to a completely different family. Its scientific name is Kallostroemia grandiflora which I find hard to remember, let alone spell. I got the seeds from a native seed company in the southwest and sowed it right into the container in June . We had lots of rain then which helps wash away germination inhibitors that the seed is said to possess. It’s an adaptation for desert life, if a rain comes along followed by drought any seeds that germinate would die so they won’t germinate till rain is sufficiently prolonged or heavy enough that they will have time to grow and make seeds. Actually I harvested my first seeds today, they form at the base of a beak like projection and turn from green to a grayish color when ripe. You have to be quick as they either fall off or eject soon afterwards.
