While this wetland soil appears clean at first glance, much of the material is recycled from other projects and sites. It contains the tailings of our society and is but one reflection of our society's large environmental footprint. Closer inspection of this soil reveals anthropogenic materials including recycled asphalt, glass fragments, and various types of conspicuous plastic.
This post-construction sampling effort establishes a proper starting point, allowing managers to differentiate between pollutants that may have been introduced during the construction process and those that might result from the ongoing restoration or management activities.
