The third Grieg Violin Sonata is a very popular piece of chamber music, and offers so many of those qualities that are unique to its composer. The present performance is one of those that actually measure up to the often overused term "legendary".
With these two musicians it is not hard to understand why, either. The present performance is nearly a century old, yet it is just as fresh and lively today as it was in the time of our ancestors.
As is our usual practice, the present restoration was conducted at original recording levels for the sake of acoustic accuracy.

What is Field Acoustic Restoration?
Every so often we will add this little note for those who are new to our channel. Field Acoustic Restoration, or FAR, is a process which uses the relative mass coefficient in a mono recording as an acoustic marker in real time. Microphones are sensitive to this information, the same as our own ears are. By constructing filters that recognize these markers, it becomes possible to recapture the original acoustic scale of the recorded space, which allows the coefficient to reassert itself on playback. This is similar to the effect achieved by stereo recording, which was originally developed to capture the same field information.
