When it comes to making areas look bright in a tattoo, the secret isn’t adding lots of white ink—it’s creating contrast. Many artists fall into the trap of using too much white, but this can lead to two major issues: it can look cartoonish, and over time, the white areas can turn yellowish as the client’s skin tone shows through.
In this video, Brandon dives into the best techniques for achieving bright areas in a skull tattoo without relying on too much white ink. He’ll show you how to use gray wash to fade to skin tone and how to place deep shadows to create strong contrast.
🔹 What’s covered:
– Why contrast, not white ink, makes tattoos look brighter
– How to fade to skin tone using gray wash
– Tips for adding deep shadows without going too dark
