This is the full build of how I forged Khal Drogo’s Arakh Sword from Game of Thrones out of a truck leaf spring.
Leaf springs are an alloy 5160 steel. They are a high carbon and chromium spring steel. This type of steel offers outstanding toughness, a high level of ductility, and excellent fatigue resistance. Alloy Steel 5160 is in use in the automotive field mainly in a number of different heavy spring applications, but especially for leaf springs.
I’ve forge many weapons from this steel and it has always performed outstanding! Keeps a sharp edge for a long time, takes a heat treat really well: gets very hard and retains flexibility.
