Mikal Mahdi, 42, is set to be executed by firing squad after spending 20 years on death row. Mahdi was convicted of murdering an off-duty police officer in Orangeburg, South Carolina and a convenience store clerk in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Mahdi will be the fifth person executed in South Carolina after the state restarted carrying out death sentences following a decade-long pause.
