Deron works with Marty Parris and Steve Webb on KGS's orphaned oil and gas well project. The KGS team works closely with the Kentucky Department of Oil and Gas and the Well-Done Foundation to estimate methane measurements from Kentucky's orphaned oil and gas wells.
Orphaned wells are those that are deemed to have no responsible owner. Most of the time this is due to the responsible party going financially insolvent.
Methane, generally, is bad for all of us trying to exist on this planet. As a modest estimates, there's at least 14,000 known orphaned wells in Kentucky alone.
