Some fishes are best left to the more experienced or knowledgeable fishkeeper but of course with research beginners could keep them in the aquarium. Fishes such as wild discus (Symphysodon), Loricariids (pleco's and whiptail catfishes), knifefishes (Gymnotiformes) and elephant noses (Mormyrids) can all pose a serious challenge for many aquarists and are beyond that beginner level. Here I discuss what can make certain aquarium fishes more challenging and might mean they need consideration.
