Seminar on Artificial Intelligence in Catholic Higher Education

This seminar examined emerging challenges in higher education posed by artificial intelligence—from the erosion of analytical thinking and academic integrity to the tension between the Imago Dei and machine learning. While it did not claim to have all the answers, it aimed to ask better questions and offer thoughtful guidance.

Guest Speakers:
Dr. Michael Shick is a combat-wounded veteran, retired senior military officer, and Assistant Professor of Project Management at Western Carolina University. With a doctorate in business from Creighton University and a master’s in project management from The George Washington University, he brings deep expertise to both academia and industry. He holds PMP and CSM certifications and leads ROSEMET LLC, a company dedicated to empowering individuals and organizations to achieve project excellence, guided by the principles of truth, goodness, and beauty. A father of eight and a committed homeschooler, Dr. Shick also champions affordable higher education for large families and promotes life, marriage, and community service.

Michael R. Gonzalez is Executive Director of the Institute for Constitutional Thought and Leadership. He holds a PhD in political science from Baylor University, where he was also a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow. His scholarship focuses on religion and politics, with additional interests in political philosophy, Roman thought, statesmanship, and American foreign policy. He has held academic appointments at Princeton University’s James Madison Program and Department of Politics. His work has appeared in Interpretation, Public Discourse, and The Catholic Thing.
