Volvo D13 egr cooler removal without turbo removal (egr cooler bracket removal version)

There are three option to remove the egr cooler
1. Remove the turbo
2. Remove the egr cooler brackets
3. Lift the motor (choose this one)

This video is removing the egr cooler brackets. This is an option if you don’t have 30mm socket, impact, and floor jack. It includes all the problems I faced trying to figure it out. YouTube has a “short” that says it can be done but does not have instructions. The shirt just says “it’s out.”

I did not know that I had to remove the brackets. I thought I could rotate the cooler and slide it forward after unstrapping the cooler. That is not the case. The brackets need to be completely removed.

So I have to figure out the brackets need to be removed in the first part of the video. Then I can’t figure out how to unbolt them. There are 12mm bolts underneath that should be removed before unstrapping the egr cooler. Then the brackets are stuck under the cooler and won’t come out. An extra coolant line needs to be removed. Tilt the front of the cooler down at a steep angle and the rear bracket will come out. The front bracket comes out fairly easily. Bring the cooler back to horizontal. Bring the cooler tight against the frame. Then rotate the top of the cooler almost 90 degrees towards the motor. Then it will slide forward towards the radiator.

There is a good video on YouTube about the motor lift. “Volvo D13 MP8 egr cooler cleaning or replacement” This allows the egr to slide right off of the mounted brackets and under the turbo. That video does not show the 30mm engine mount bolts behind the motor, from over the motor. I include a video of that at the beginning of this video. These 30mm engine mounting bolts are unrelated to removing the egr bracket method.

You won’t be able to see the bolts over the motor. You can see the bolts down the passenger side. Lay over the motor from the drivers side. And reach an impact over rear of the motor. I was not able to touch the bolts with my hand. But, I could reach it with the socket and then put the impact on the socket.
