Great atmosphere, great applause and a handball celebration – this was the first debut match of One Veszprém HC this season, when the Polish champion team, Orlen Wisla Plock, visited the One Veszprém Arena.
The match started with special moments even before the start the audience greeted the Plock players with Veszprém ties with a standing ovation, as well as our new signings – this time Ahmed Hesham, Ivan Martinovic and Dragan Pechmalbec also played a role in the starting lineup.
We quickly set the tone at the beginning of the match in the 2nd minute, after Corrales saved, Hugo Descat scored the first home goal of the season. From there, we built our game nicely Ivan Martinovic confidently continued to score goals. In defense, Gergő Fazekas had to be watched.
Gasper Marguc flashed at the beginning of the first half, then Martinovic's goal gave the visitors a seven-meter penalty, but Corrales was still there - so we still had the advantage. Around the 15th minute, the bench also moved Ali Zein, Yehia ElDeraa and Elísson also entered the field, while Corrales continued his brilliant saves.
We went into the break with a confident, seven-goal lead (17–10).
The second half started with a bit of difficulty, we were down a man due to Thiagus Petrus being sent off. However, the man deficit did not break the momentum Marguc and Descat both scored, so we still maintained our lead. At that time, Mikael Appelgren was in goal, who reliably took over from Corrales.
Halfway through the half, Plock caught up somewhat, but they were far from equalizing. Sergei Kosorotov fought off a seven-meter shot, but Appelgren's brilliant save kept the five-goal difference (23–18).
In the last five minutes, the Swedish goalkeeper took the lead again, and then Ali Zein scored his first home goal from his shot, which was met with great applause. However, the score became somewhat closer in the early stages. First Ali Zein and then Nedim Remili hit the post in the last minute, so the guests came close to the home team. Both head coaches – first Xavi Sabaté, then Xavi Pascual – asked for time to organize their lines for the final game.
After a quick goal exchange, Bjarki Már Elísson finally set the final score.
