Volcanoes, diving between the continents and whale spotting! // Iceland

Finally getting to the Fagradalsfjall Eruption, before switching to van life, diving at Silfra and heading to the North to catch some humpbacks in the fjord.

After driving to Grindavik and taking a very short nap, we headed to the nearby volcanic eruption at Fagradalsfjall, hiking along the ridge to the East to get a view of the volcano. We had an amazing time spending the evening having our minds blown, flying drones and taking hundreds of photos. After making the hike back along the side of the lava field we say goodbye to Niklas and switch our Suzuki Jimny for a campervan for the final part of our trip.

After driving to Thingvellir National Park, we went diving at Silfra, in the freezing cold glacial waters that fill the various rift canyons and cracks that are formed as the continental plates of Europe and America pull apart. With some of the clearest water in the world , this really was a snorkelling trip to remember.

We then made our way all the way to the North of Iceland spending a day watching for Humpback Whales in the fjords North of Akureyri; managing to get over them with the drone for some great content, before rounding off the day with another visit to Godafoss - although this time we actually walked to the waterfall itself.

This trip will likely go down as the best I ever do. So many experiences, moments and memories helped to make this much more than the bucket list trip it was supposed to be. After a year of lockdown, reduced travel and many postponed/cancelled plans, we decided to just go to Iceland and give ourselves an experience to remember.
