The song basically is the unofficial anthem of Aachen, it's very popular, especially during carnival. The story of it is that during the German revolution of 1848, the people of Aachen stole the baton of the drum major and rifles from opposing soldiers
as a sign of civil disobedience before roaming and celebrating throughout the city with the stolen goods.
