In this video, we examine the new Beiyang (North Sea Warlord) Cavalry Saber based on M1889 Imperial German Cavalry Saber, and discuss whether it is the best military saber on today's reproduction market.
I think by the end of my expose and test cutting, you will be impressed and tend to agree with me that it is indeed one of the most compelling offer of a versatile late period military saber, that has a relatively rare cross section (pipeback with a Prosser Quill tip). It is closely modeled on an antique original in possession of LK Chen, therefore it is a faithful recreation as well, but optimized for modern activities such as practice cutting with military saber techniques. Despite being such a lightweight and nimble example excellent for both horseback actions and foot combat, it remains an authoritative cutter and a precise and reliable thruster, given the unique pipeback cross section ensuring a thick but strongly tapered spine to ensure rigidity, but a very thin bevel starting just below the spine to make the incision very clean.
