Spoiler: multiple alleles aren't special - you work problems (like Punnett squares) with multiple alleles the same way you'd work them for a gene with just two alleles. You just get more possibilities for genotypes and phenotypes!
In this video, we look at three common issues students often run into with multiple alleles:
00:00 Intro
00:20 NOTATION: multiple alleles are often written with a superscript, but we can also use superscript to label alleles in other scenarios - always read your question carefully!
01:02 The ABO blood group has three alleles, represented by the letter I with superscript; A and B are codominant, and both dominant over O.
02:14 GENOTYPES AND PLOIDY: you only get as many alleles as your ploidy allows! regardless of the number of alleles in your population, you only get two alleles in a diploid genotype (it could be two copies of the same allele, or two different alleles).
02:55 MULTIPLE ALLELES ARE COMMON: just because Mendel didn't want to study them doesn't mean they aren't everywhere :)
03:30 RECAP!
Remember, ABO is the name of the group, it's not a genotype!
