Tomás Rua Ó Súilleabháin wrote the moving words and tune after the tragic loss of his library. He tells the story of the loss in this song. I describe it in the opening section to this song. As we learn this tune I have found it helpful to listen to it sung while reading the words. Please watch both of these videos I found as they present an incredibly emotive interpretation of the tune. There are other great renderings of the song, but I particularly enjoy these two.
