Waterworld is an action-platform game for the Sega Mega Drive, developed by Ocean Software. While games based on the film were released for the Super NES, Game Boy, Virtual Boy, and PC, the Mega Drive version followed a different path. Based on the 1995 film Waterworld, it was originally intended for a cartridge release in late 1995, but both this version and a planned Sega Saturn port were shelved for unknown reasons. The game ultimately received an official release via the Sega Channel, where it was broadcast in March 1996 as one of the service’s more notable downloadable exclusives. The Sega Channel version was finally preserved and released in 2025 by the Video Game History Foundation.
