In this video, watch how 10th grade students wrestle with complex quotations from Life of Pi.
First, teacher Bob Sparks poses a text-dependent questions. Then, students think and write about the question, identifying key textual evidence to support their response. From there, they engage in a a brief Turn and Talk dialogue with a partner before engaging in a brief whole class discussion
This cycle is repeated multiple times with different key quotes drawn from Life of Pi.
