Right across the street from quiet homes in Orange, Texas, sits the abandoned Jones Elementary School — a building that holds decades of history within its walls.
Built in the early 1950s during the post–World War II baby boom, Jones Elementary was named after George D. Jones, a longtime school board president. For generations, it served as a neighborhood school, from segregation to integration, and from classrooms full of children to empty, silent halls.
After closing as an elementary in 1991, the building later became an alternative education center and eventually a church and charter school. But once the church shut down, the property fell into decay. Overgrown and scarred by time, the school now stands abandoned — its walls crumbling, its windows broken, and its history fading away.
In March 2025, the story of Jones Elementary took another turn when a fire broke out inside the already condemned structure. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, but the building’s fate is sealed: demolition is coming soon.
This video documents the history of Jones Elementary — from its beginnings to its final days — before it disappears forever.
