But perhaps even more important: how do you keep your pond water cool in the desert where temperatures can rise up to 40 degrees celcius?

In this video I take you to the pond of a French friend who lives in Dubai. His story is special, just like the newly arrived Koi from Japan.

About 2 years ago I met a Frenchman who lives in Dubai and chases his dreams there.

In 2019 he sent me a message that he has been crazy about aquariums and fish since he was 6 years old and that he accidentally saw one of my videos. He wanted to know everything about the hobby and he told me that he wanted to build a pond.

After talking for months, he decided to actually build a koi pond in the desert!

In March and April of 2019, he decided to build a pond of 12,000 liters during the corona crisis.

His very first purchases were 2 small 2 year old koi from Sakai and a large tancho Showa from marusei.

As crazy as it sounds, the pond had to be bigger! So he decided to expand the pond to 28,000 liters less than a year later! More space for more Koi!

The new fish that arrived today are of absolute top quality and come from the Sakai Koi Farm, Torazo Koi Farm, Dainichi, Maruseim Yagenji and Maruyama.

The average value of this koi collection is between $150,000 and $180,000 dollars.

Most koi are from Sakai and are around 3 years old and between 72 and 76 cm. Almost all fish have the potential to grow very large. Don't be surprised if these Koi reach 90 centimeters in this climate.

The Dainichi Showa is also 3 years old and already measures 72 centimeters.

The Koi are only fed with Hikari Growth or Hikari Health.

"I soon noticed that my Koi prefer to eat sinking food and also grow better from this" According to my French friend.

When asked which are his favorite Koi, he answered: the Yagenji Karashigoi that he bought during the auction in 2019 and the showa of Maruyama. The body, skin quality and pattern are simply stunning.

To keep the temperatures from rising too high, the pond is continuously cooled to 28 degrees. This is necessary because temperatures can get very high in the summer.

The pond is filtered by a Profidrum system and a trickle filter. About 20% of the water is changed every week.

Refreshing is very important to keep the values ​​right. Low KH levels is one of the biggest challenges in Dubai.
