My Friend Got Hurt At The Start Of This Race | Stint 1/2 | Circuit Park Berghem

The Oliebollenrace did not start the way we hoped.

This video begins with qualifying highlights from Rien. Alan also took part in qualifying, but unfortunately forgot to record, and I sat out qualifying entirely. After that, we cut straight to highlights from Rien’s opening stint, which only lasted a few laps before things went very wrong.

Rien was involved in a huge crash where another kart was pushed over the top of him. The impact tore off the Nassau panel and left the kart badly damaged. Rien injured his hand in the crash and was unable to continue for the rest of the race.

With the kart heavily damaged, I took over the next stint. After some discussion, we decided to send the kart back out despite the damage. I completed two laps before being called in with a meatball flag and was finally given a replacement kart. On cold tyres I made a small mistake, but once everything settled, I managed to put in some strong laps and recover as many positions as possible, climbing to around P30 out of 49.

A tough start to the race, but the focus quickly shifted to damage limitation and pushing forward.
