SAMBHAASHAN SEASON 2 is here
After a successful first series we at Kathakaar are extremely happy to bring the second edition of Sambhaashan Series.
I am extremely thankful and happy to collaborate with Shruti Gopal for this episode. Shruti is a graceful dancer with a striking stage presence and very nuanced Abhinaya. Her dance is an expression of her inner joy and is as sublime and pristine as she is. Apart from knowing Shruti as an artist I also consider her as a friend with wonderful insights about art and her curiosity and constant urge for knowledge make her a very interesting and sensitive artist.
She is a disciple of the legendary guru Padmini Ramachandran and is currently learning from Guru Bragha Bessel .
In this impromptu conversation we delve into the immortal kriti of Saint Annamayya, Naanati Baduku NaaTakaamu . . . .
the gist of the composition is as follows
Annamacharya talks about the life as a mere drama. The drama gets enacted day in and day out. We are all in the midst of it. But, the salvation, the liberation lies outside the drama and beyond the realms of our understanding. Realised souls only can recognise this and free themselves from this cycle.
We are born. We die. Between the two extremes lies the drama. Whats right in front of us is the maya and if we look beyond in the end beyond the screens of illusions lies the true kaivalaya.
In this drama, our sins add up. Our good deeds dwindle. There is one Lord Sri Venkateshwara who stands above all these. beyond the sky and beyond what the material eye can see, Venkateshwara stands smiling and in his feet only we cn find salvation.
I begin the piece with Adi Shankaracharya's verses from Bhaja Govindam which also preaches the same philosophy. Both the saints ask us to wake from our state of slumber and see what's the reality!
