Quick disclaimer: I am running on very little sleep, so I misspoke thinking of the wrong year. I appreciate how this community fact checks me because we all care to remain true to what the facts of the case are. I genuinely appreciate it.
In this live, I covered Judge Liman’s January 16, 2026 order on sealing and unsealing in the Blake Lively v. Wayfarer case. That order mattered because the court made clear that the public had a right to follow what was happening in real time, especially with summary judgment and spoliation arguments approaching. The judge largely denied broad sealing requests from both parties and multiple non-parties, allowing many exhibits to be unsealed while narrowly protecting limited personal information, medical details, and specific financial data. The court was explicit that secrecy had to be justified, not assumed, and directed the parties to refile materials quickly so the public could review them before oral argument. In short, the order reduced how much stayed behind redactions and reinforced that transparency was the default in this case, not the exception.
