About our guest:

An alumnus of National Defence Academy was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in December 1967. A third generation Army Officer was genetically inclined to serve in the Armed Forces. As a young Captain, he fought the 1971 War in the Dera Baba Nanak, Western Theatre, where he was recommended for the award of Vir Chakra. Since then, he has seen active service in every rank of his career. While in service, he has gone through the paces of all important courses in the Army, the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington in a competitive vacancy in 1981, the Higher Command Course, War College Mhow in 1990, and National Defence College, New Delhi in 1998. An out-of-the-box thinker, he ideated a new concept for the Artillery Fire Power to force the enemy to submission in the Kargil Heights War. Globally acknowledged for articulating the dynamic concept, Captain Marcus P Acosta from Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California, in his research paper on High Altitude and the Kargil War, writes, "the Indian Army deployed over 300 guns at Kargil, and most of them came under the command of one of the army’s most innovative leaders, Brigadier Lakhwinder Singh. Singh earned the nickname 'Enraged Bull of Dras' for his technique of applying overwhelming firepower in support of infantry maneuver, which he compared to using a 'sledgehammer to shell a peanut.' As commander of 8 Mountain Division's Artillery Brigade at Dras, he played a pivotal role in the conflict’s most important battles.
