The Future of Konkani Music Shone Brightly at Kalaangann
"Good Music, a Beautiful Presentation by Prajoth Dsa. And truly I tell you, the Future of Konkani Music is here." When this voice of Eric Bab echoed at Kalaangann on January 4, 2026, the packed audience was amazed and moved. By 'rewinding' and playing these encouraging words that Eric Bab had spoken 11 years ago (when Prajoth performed at the 157th Monthly Theatre), Prajoth paid Tribute to him and kicked off the 289th Monthly Theatre.
Working as a software engineer in Australia, Prajoth has kept the promise he made to Eric Bab and carried forward the Hope placed in him. The proof of this lies in how he has expanded his influence over the past decade across the Konkani, Kannada, and Tulu film industries, Music Nites, Various Stages, and Social Media Platforms. As a testament to this, the recently released 'Baila Bayamma' stands out. At every Function, Party, and Celebration, 'Bayamma' is dances Baila and also makes people dance.
Even though the town was busy with the Eucharistic Procession, Weddings, and other Celebrations on this 'Monthly Theatre Sunday', Crowds flocked to Kalaangann in waves, as if attending a Feast. Some even had to return home due to a lack of space - a rare occurrence in the world of Konkani Performing Arts. The Live Concert by Prajoth, which followed the 'Rupya-Pavlam' stage programme (marking the start of the 25th year of Mandd Sobhann's Monthly Theatre Series), delighted the audience immensely. It was as if a whole year's enthusiasm was poured out in a single day; the audience drank the nectar of music to their heart's content.
After songs like Uddi Uddi, Thembe Thembe Pavsa, Tuzo Moag Mhaka Zala, Hanv Nennam, Chintnant Yetay, Sobhay Tuji, Sudd-sudde Renvecher, Vishvasi Moag, Kann Kann, Jivit O’dhurem, and two medleys presented with the Blue Angels Choir, the moment the audience had been waiting for arrived - the time to dance along with 'Baila Bayamma'. Everyone interested in dancing, from toddlers to the very elderly, danced, danced, and danced.
While Sonal Monteiro, Cliyon Dsilva, Ayush Menezes, and the Blue Angels Choir provided vocal accompaniment to Prajoth, the evening was adorned by the Musical Team: Russell Rodrigues as Music Director, Hrishikesh Upadhyay on Drums, Joswin Dcunha on Lead Guitar, and Milton Brags on Bass Guitar.
