茨木駅は、大阪府茨木市駅前一丁目にある、西日本旅客鉄道（JR西日本）東海道本線の駅である。茨木市を代表する駅で、かつ新快速が通過する駅の中では最も乗車人員が多い。当駅と阪急京都線茨木市駅の間は、距離にして約1.5km、徒歩なら約18分かかる。両駅間を阪急バス・近鉄バス・京阪バスが結んでいる。阪急への乗り換えは摂津富田駅や高槻駅がより至近である。

新快速停車の計画があると何度か報じられたが、JR西日本からの公式発表はなく、以降進展する気配もない。回送列車や臨時列車は通過待ちのため当駅で運転停車する事がある。朝ラッシュ時は、当該時間帯のみ外側線を走行する快速の多くが普通と連絡する。大阪方面については、当駅で快速と連絡を取らない普通も多くが新大阪駅到着までに追い抜かれる。

Ibaraki Station is a station on the West Japan Railway Company's (JR West) Tokaido Main Line, located in Ekimae 1-chome, Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. It is a representative station in Ibaraki City, and has the highest number of passengers among the stations that the new rapid train passes through. The distance between this station and Ibarakishi Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line is approximately 1.5 km, and it takes approximately 18 minutes on foot. Hankyu Bus, Kintetsu Bus, and Keihan Bus connect the two stations. For transferring to Hankyu, Settsu-Tomita Station and Takatsuki Station are closer.

It has been reported several times that there are plans for a new rapid stop, but there has been no official announcement from JR West, and there is no sign of any further progress. Detour trains and special trains may stop at this station to wait for passage. During the morning rush hour, many of the rapid trains that run on the outer tracks only communicate with regular trains during that time. For Osaka, many local trains that do not connect with the rapid train at this station will be overtaken by the time they arrive at Shin-Osaka Station.
