This Grade II listed building was first built in the 17th century, it now sits sadly abandoned as do the extension wings which haven't been abandoned as long & were a later addition to the central large house. It looks to have been converted & used as appartments,
flats, and the majority of bedrooms had bathrooms and kitchens attached, which were far to many for me to count. The owner a Mrs,G,G,S passed away on the 16th of January, 2010. The diary found alongside some photographs was left open at her funeral's date, Friday the 12th February 2010. The former owner was a self-made businesswoman who found success in property during the 1960s after working as a civil servant in the war office. It was during this period that her friendship with a Lady SR blossomed and they journeyed to Poland together on one of the many trips made to take vital supplies of food medicine and clothing to concentration camp survivors, and people left abandoned in a country deeply damaged by the Second World War.
The Mansion House was sold for £2.5 million to developers whom were appointed to secure a planning consent for the redevelopment of the Listed Building and creation of new homes within its grounds & to ensure that the value of the site was maximised prior to the proceeds being left to the two very worthy charities.
Parts of the building seem to have been lived in as recently as only a couple of years ago? Sorry for the lack of history, If only those walls could talk...
All in All another very worthwhile trip & a very enjoyable 3 hour explore, although I still managed to miss out quite a bit of it, due to the amount of rooms & passages....I just got lost....sorry about the lighting....again!
I Hope you find something to enjoy of this magnificent old beauty.
Aeterna Non Caduca
Not for this life alone, but for eternity.
