Stromberg Lab PhD student Alex Lowe and Field Assistant Sam Lavin report from the field at Alvord Creek Fossil Beds in southeastern Oregon. Lowe and Lavin joined Caroline Strömberg, Dr. Mark Schmitz of Boise State University, and Burke Museum research associates Rick and Tad Dillhoff to sample volcanic ash and search for fossil plants.
The trip was a success! The team was able to sample ~800 plant fossils and 4 volcanic ashes which will be used to date the site.
Fossils are currently being unpacked, cataloged, and photographed at the Burke by a team of three undergraduate students.
