What airline is this? Turkmenistan Airlines: scammed by a travel agency, or new best way to travel?

Let's be honest: in this day and age, who uses travel agencies anymore? Infamous by taking your money and refusing to give any after-sales service, why would you not book directly with the airline?
That is what I've done all these years. Until I came across a dilemma: flying a well established airline and pay a fortune more, extra for baggage, extra for seat assignment... or trying an obscure airline from a secretive Central Asian country and post-soviet republic.
On this trip to Thailand, I decided to give this a try. And since they don't sell directly to the public, I had to (very reluctantly) trust a travel agency.
