LED (classic) Tranquil Turtle Nachtlicht reparieren «Tutorial» How to fix LED light

Plötzlich funktionierte das LED-Licht der "cloud·b" Schildkröte (erstes Modell) nicht mehr. Dazu muss man wissen, dass sie die meiste Zeit ordentlich und ungenutzt im Schrank lag. Woher also der defekt?

Suddenly the LED light of the "cloud·b" tranquil turtle (first/classic model) stopped working. Actually not whilst in use. The turtle was kept tidy and unused in the closet most of the time. So how come it was broken?

Auf der (alten) Homepage des Herstellers gibt (gab) es in den FAQ keine wirkliche Hilfe. Dort befassen sich die Fragen diesbezüglich nur mit der Lebensdauer der LED Lichter, die nicht ausgetauscht werden können. Bei einer Lebensdauer von "bis zu 3000 Stunden " (Herstellerangabe) hätte unsere Tochter das Schlummerlicht rein rechnerisch an ihre eigenen Kinder vermachen können:

3.000 Stunden x 60 = 180.000 Minuten
» Nach 23 Minuten schaltet sich das Gerät automatisch aus:
» 180.000 Minuten ÷ 23 Minuten = 7.826 "Nutzungen"
» Bei Ø einer Nutzung je Nacht und Schaltjahren (alle 4 Jahre):
» 7.826 "Nutzungen" ÷ 365,25 Tage (je Jahr) = 21, 4 Jahre theoretisch mögliche "Nutzungsdauer". Unglaublich ;o)

Davon ist die Schildkröte aber "Lichtjahre" entfernt, da ein minderwertiges Bauteil verwendet wurde.

You won't find help in the faq on the manufacturers (old) homepage. Regarding the LED light, which can't be replaced, they only state a lifespan of up to 3000 hours (manufacturer information):

"Can the light bulbs in the Tranquil Turtle be replaced?
No. All Tranquil Turtle products are equipped with long lasting LED lights providing up to 3,000 hours of illumination"

This means to me:
3,000 hours x 60 = 180,000 minutes
»After 23 minutes, the device switches off automatically:
»180,000 minutes ÷ 23 minutes = 7,826 "uses "
»At one use per night and leap years (every 4 years):
»7.826 "usages" ÷ 365.25 days (per year) = 21, 4 years theoretically possible "lifespan " - wow ;o)

However, the turtle is "light-years" away of this valaue because they used an inferior component.

Auf einer englischen Hilfeseite ist das Problem in der Regel dadurch gelöst worden, dass der Kontakt zwischen Anschluss im batteriefach und den Batterien nicht mehr ordentlich gegeben war und man daher den flachen Kontakt (nicht die Feder) etwas nach vorne biegen müsse.

Das hilft in der Regel aber nicht weiter, wie in einem Facebook-Thread von Sandra Baumann (vom 03. Juli 2016) und 62 Kommentaren ausführlich nachzulesen ist.

Robin Empunkt liefert hier die Lösung: "Ich hatte jetzt nach 4 Wochen auch das Problem. Die Lösung lag jetzt darin einfach an der Unterseite beim Batteriefach an dem Regler das Licht heller zu drehen. Eigentlich dimmt man Led's ja pulsweitenmoduliert aber in diesem Fall scheint man sich für ein einfaches Potentiometer entschieden zu haben und scheinbar gibt's Probleme mit einem Schwellwert wenn das Licht sehr dunkel gedreht wurde/ist und dadurch hat es den Anschein von einem Wackelkontakt. Ihr könnt es ja mal probieren."

Das in diesem Thread erwähnte youtube-Video ist aber nicht (mehr) zu finden. Wir haben es jedenfalls (19.08.2019) nicht gefunden und dies als Anlass genommen, unser erstes youtube-Video-Tutorial zu erstellen. Dass dies fast eine Woche Zeit in Anspruch nimmt, hätte ich nicht erwartet...

On the fixya-webpage, the problem has usually been solved by the fact that the contact between the connection in the battery compartment and the batteries was no longer tidy and therefore the flat contact (not the spring) had to bend slightly forward.

"...To remove the shell: Pull back Velcro fabric and expose the battery case. Remove the battery case with 4 screws. ...
Carefully find 6 Philips screws that hold the shell on. You may need to feel your way around the perimeter of the belly. From the opening in the fabric remove the screws. The shell comes off easily. ...just have patience."

The youtube video mentioned in this thread is not (anymore) to be found. We did not find it anyway (19.08.2019) and used this as an opportunity to create our first youtube video tutorial. That this would take almost a week, I would not have expected ...
