UWest is home to two landmark research initiatives led by Dr. Miroj Shakya, Chair and Associate Professor of Religious Studies: the Digital Sanskrit Buddhist Canon (DSBC) and the Rare Manuscript Projects. These efforts are dedicated to preserving historical Buddhist sutras in Sanskrit through meticulous digitization. Since their inception in 2003, the projects have safeguarded over 600 texts, making significant contributions to global Buddhist scholarship.
