► I'm Jeb Butler, and this is Brittany Partridge. We're lawyers at the Butler Kahn law firm. We wanted to talk today about a recent settlement in a trucking accident case involving a delivery van. In this one, we can't give all the details. We can't give, for example, the name of the company, or the real names, real full names at least of our clients because the details are confidential at the insistence of the defendant. But the total settlement amount was $720,000. And Brittany will tell us what happened out there on the road.
► Yes. So our clients, Cameron and Calvin, were traveling in a Dodge pickup truck down Highway 102 out in a pretty rural area. It was a two-lane highway. And if you pull up the Google Maps photo, we can see that image. They were traveling down this two-lane highway, and in front of them was a delivery truck. And the delivery truck turned on her right turn signal, and then started to slow down.
► As if she's turning onto Country Club Drive right here, is that right?
► That's correct. Yes. So as if she was about to turn onto that street. So if we actually go to the person image, we can see that this is a legal passing zone on this highway. And so our client, Cameron, who was in the driver's seat, decided to go ahead and pass the delivery truck driver since it was a legal passing zone. But to his surprise, the delivery truck driver continued forward, and then took a very quick left turn towards a house as if she had missed her route. And we actually did find out in discovery that that's exactly what happened. She was supposed to turn right onto Country Club Drive, but was going too fast potentially because she was talking on the phone, and then tried to fix that mistake by turning left without looking behind her.
► So she has on the right blinker, enter right. Our clients come out, they're trying to pass. And as they're passing on her left, legally, she takes a left down onto Hammett Road here?
► Yes, that's right. And the police report does a pretty good job of showing the depiction of the two vehicles and their paths going into the collision. So if you want to pull up that police report.
► I'm on it, Ms. Partridge. All right. Here we go.
► Yeah. So here, we have the police diagram. And so Cameron, he was in that pickup truck that's behind the larger vehicle. So it was a van in front of him. And you can see he's making that left pass, but then the delivery truck vehicle just pulls right in front of him and causes a T-bone collision. And both vehicles were totaled. Both drivers were severely injured, but we'll talk more about Cameron and Calvin's injuries at a later time.
