सह्याद्रीच्या कुशीत लपलेला आणि शिवरायांच्या पदस्पर्शाने पावन झालेला किल्ले कुर्डूगड |

किल्ले कुर्डूगद :-
माणगाव तालुक्यामधे एका अनगड ठिकाणी कुर्डूगडाचा किल्ला दबा धरून बसलेला आहे. फारसा परिचित नसलेला कुर्डूगड मोसे खोऱ्यातील पासलकर या शिवकालीन घराण्याच्या अखत्यारीत होता. पासलकर घराण्यातील बाजी पासलकर हे शिवाजीराजांचे समकालीन आणि सहकारी होते. बाजी पासलकर कुर्डूगडाचा उपयोग विश्रांतीसाठी करीत म्हणून या गडाला विश्रामगड असेही म्हणतात.

सुळक्याच्या आकाराचा माथा असलेला कुर्डूगड किल्ला सह्याद्रीच्या कोकणात उतरणाऱ्या एका धारेवर वसलेला आहे. या धारेवर कु्र्डूपेठ नावाची लहानशी वस्ती वसलेली आहे. या वस्तीमधे कुर्डाईदेवीचे मंदिर आहे. म्हणून किल्ल्याला कुर्डूगड असे नाव पडले आहे.

Fort Kurdugad:-
Kurdugad or Vishramgad comes Mangaon taluka in Raigad district. This Fort can be trekked from Umbarde base village. If you are coming from Mumbai you can come via Pali- Khopoli road and from Pune you can come via Mulshi - Tamhini ghat road. It takes about 2 hours to reach the fort from the base village. The route passes through dense jungle. There is no water stream nearby or at the fort so, carry enough water with you.It takes about one and a half hours to reach the tribal Katkari village called Kurdupeth.
From Kurdupeth it is a steep climb of half an hour to reach the entrance gate of the fort.
Kurdugad was named after the goddess Krudai Devi, whose temple is constructed at the base of the fort. The fort was constructed during the reign of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with the assistance of Sardar Baji Pasalkar. Kurdugad Fort is 615m above sea level. The Tamhni ghat pass can be easily seen and guarded from the top of the Kurdugad fort. Therefore, it is possible that this fort was built for guarding trading route of Tamhini ghat. Actually, not much is known about this fort, but these ruins and this ancient temple tell a different story.

Veergal means a pillar erected in memory of brave men. It is also called Veerastambha. Virgala has three or five parts. The lowest part shows the hero fighting in battle. This also explains the reason for the fight. The upper part shows the heroic warrior going to Mount Kailash and worshiping Shankara's pindi. If killed in battle field it is supposed to suggest that heaven is attained. Some veeragals are engraved with the hand of Sati. We get to see such different veergals in this place.
